NCFMG wants to help you and your family stay in tip-top health for this back-to-school season. In honor of National Immunization Awareness Month, we want to remind you the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. Here are a few reasons* to get vaccinated as soon as possible:

  1. Vaccines are recommended throughout our lives to protect against serious diseases. – The need for vaccinations does not end in childhood. Vaccines are recommended throughout our lives. Specific recommendations are based on age, lifestyle, occupation, travel destinations, medical conditions and vaccines received in the past.
  2. Vaccines prevent diseases such as influenza (flu), shingles, pneumonia, hepatitis, pertussis and many more – People with certain chronic conditions are at increased risk for serious complications from vaccine-preventable diseases and many of these diseases are common in the U.S.
  3. Vaccines are an important step in protecting against sometimes deadly diseases – Vaccine-preventable diseases can be very serious, may require hospitalization or can even be deadly like meningococcal, whooping cough, and HPV.
  4. Diseases still exist and outbreaks do occur. – Schools are prime settings for spreading many vaccine-preventable diseases, and school-age children can further spread disease to their families and others with whom they come in contact. Being vaccinated helps stop the spread of disease to family, classmates and others in the community.
  5. Vaccines are safe. – Vaccines are thoroughly tested before licensing and carefully monitored even after they are licensed to ensure that they are safe. Side effects from vaccines are usually mild and temporary.
